Using essential oils in your home

The growing popularity in using essential oils is nothing to be sniffed at! With an oil suitable for just about anything, many are turning to essential oils to alleviate ailments, encourage a positive mental state or to purify their homes.

Essential oils are most commonly used through a ‘diffuser’ using water to carry the oil into the air or by applying to the skin (with a carrier oil).

As with most things, it is recommended to seek medical advice before introducing essential oils to your routine and to keep oils away from babies and pets. Please ensure you have researched the effects, correct application methods and carrier oils before using essential oils.

It is recommended to purchase pure essential oils instead of ‘watered down’ options. Some oils can be blended to benefit from the combination.

Whilst there are numerous oils available, below are some popular essential oils that could be used in your home:

Peppermint is known to assist in relieving headaches and nausea as well as increasing energy levels. Peppermint oil can assist in repelling spiders- simply combine with water in a spray bottle and spray around windows and doors.

Lemon can boost the cleaning power of natural cleansers- apply some to your dish sponge between washes. Lemon is also known to support healthy digestion and nourish the skin.

Lavender is one of the most popular and common essential oils known to sooth and relax. To create a relaxed environment place some in your bedroom to encourage a better rest. Lavender can also help repel mosquitos or reduce irritation if bitten.

Eucalyptus can help relieve sinus pain, asthma and respiratory infections. Especially popular during cold and flu season as it aids in cleansing your body of toxins.
